Moving as a student can be both exciting and overwhelming. Whether you're moving to a new city for the first time or just changing student housing, there's a lot to keep track of. To make the process a little easier, we've compiled five helpful tips that will help you get off to a smooth start to your new chapter.

1. Plan well in advance
It's easy to underestimate how much time and effort a relocation process requires. Make a checklist of what needs to be done before, during and after the move. Book relocation assistance or car rental well in advance, especially if you are moving during the peak season around the start of your studies.

2. Get rid of unnecessary things
The less you have to pack, the easier the move will be. Go through clothes, books, and anything else you own, and give away or sell what you don't need. This saves space and can give you some extra money for the start of your studies.

3. Get the most important things first
When you arrive at your new home, you should prioritize getting the most important things in place first, such as a bed, utensils, and desk. Then you can gradually buy in what you lack.

4. Save money on furniture and equipment
As a student, finances can be tight. Check if you can get used furniture via Finn.no, Facebook Marketplace or flea markets. Many former students give things away for free to new students!

5. Get to know the local area
Once you're in place, spend some time exploring the neighborhood. Find out where grocery stores, public transportation, gyms and other essential amenities are located. The faster you get to know your surroundings, the more you will feel at home.

Moving doesn't have to be stressful — with a little planning and smart choices, you can get your student life off to a great start. Good luck with the move!
